Dissecting the Unsettling Beauty of Organic Anxiety: An Interview with Valentina Rodriguez
Valentina Rodriguez, an artist based in Berlin, has introduced a completely new dimension to the world of jewellery with her latest work. Her brand, Organic Anxiety, is quickly gaining traction within the design community for its haunting beauty and unorthodox approach. I had the honour of speaking with Rodriguez, who offered an intimate look into the soul of her label.
“We never know where we are next”
The name Organic Anxiety immediately strikes a chord. It's evocative, curious, and almost contradictory. I asked Rodriguez what meaning lies behind it.
“Organic comes along with the forms we create and our way of work,” she explained. “The Anxiety is in it because we never know where we are next.”
Indeed, the pieces in this collection have a swirling, shifting complexity to them—a kind of aesthetic unease. The work evokes anatomical and biological forms: part natural, part unnerving. There’s an undercurrent of horror that runs through the delicate intricacy of each design.
When asked about her inspirations, Rodriguez revealed a surprising influence: the world of tattooing. “We don’t like just ‘beautiful’ stuff,” she said. Her work, she explained, is more an “expression of how the world is in itself.”
Why Jewellery?
Considering the unique, almost sculptural nature of her designs, I asked Rodriguez why she chose jewellery as her primary medium. She attributed her beginnings to friends in South America, whose influence led her to pick up her first set of pliers and wires.
“It’s nice when you can create something from almost nothing. That’s what handcraft really is.”
This tactile, almost primal connection to materials is at the heart of Organic Anxiety—it’s art built from impulse and intuition as much as technique.
Looking Ahead (but not too far)
Rodriguez is clearly someone who relishes the present moment, but that doesn’t mean she’s not looking forward to what’s possible. When asked about future projects, she mentioned her growing interest in 3D design:
“I’m really excited about new projects we could create with the help of 3D designing. It gives a certain freedom—to not be forced just to sit on the jewellery bench in one’s little nest.”
She also expressed her excitement about an ongoing collaboration with Starfish Magazine—a milestone she speaks about with genuine humility.
“For me, it’s already a big achievement to sit here and answer all these questions. For sure there are going to be more crazy things soon. But it's better not to talk too much—magic comes and goes fast.”
A Grounded Artist in an Unsteady World
Rodriguez doesn’t pretend to have everything figured out—and that honesty makes her work all the more compelling.
“I am not this beforesighted person,” she told me. “I’m just very grateful for where I am now and the environment I’m in.”
But what about the challenges? Surely, an artist navigating such emotionally layered work must carry a weight with it.
“There are lots of struggles, haha,” she admitted. “But the best way is to adapt oneself to them and make the best of it—or just let them go and go on.”
A Brand With Depth and Purpose
In closing, I asked Rodriguez what she wants people to understand when they encounter Organic Anxiety.
“I really hope the people getting something out of Organic Anxiety are conscious about more than just fashion. There is an aim to create a support system for people who are in a more difficult situation than most of us white Europeans are.”
Rodriguez’s commitment to reflection, social awareness, and emotional authenticity is evident in every piece she creates. Organic Anxiety is more than a jewellery brand—it’s a visceral response to the world around us. There’s a rawness and a tenderness within it, a beauty unearthed from discomfort.
It’s clear that Rodriguez has only just begun to explore the boundaries of her vision. And whatever comes next, one thing is certain: her work will continue to disturb, delight, and inspire.
