Maze Studios: Rethinking Dublin Night Life

At the heart of Dublin’s nightlife and dance scene, Maze/Maze X has emerged as one of the most distinctive and innovative brands in contemporary culture. More than just an events brand, Maze represents the intersection between fashion, dance, music, and leisure. Maze X has created a fresh new space that allows for self-expression and full enjoyment of the dance music scene.

Founded in 2024 by Leo Mazor, Maze X grew organically from the desire to create better nightlife experiences. After growing frustrated by nights that felt repetitive, disconnected, and lacking in character, the collective was established to answer this problem, creating events that are immersive, innovative, and inclusive. The project champions individuality, creative risk, and community connection. Maze X events are not simply club nights but curated evenings in which sound, visuals, and fashion carefully intersect. The collective approaches event production with the same attention found in its clothing design, making every Maze X event distinct in its intention and environment.

The brand’s attention to detail is what makes it resonate so strongly with Dublin's underground. Every decision is rooted in a clear understanding of what the collective intends to offer for its audience. Instead of chasing trends or replacing already established formats, Maze X prioritises atmosphere and experience. Music is used to tell a story through DJ sets that are experimental and innovative, allowing dancers to fully immerse themselves in the experience as a whole. Maze X resists rigid genre boundaries, allowing both artists and audiences to discover and explore different musical styles.

Maze Dublin, the fashion arm, is informed by nightlife and dance movement, designed with the knowledge that clothing is lived in and worn as a form of self-expression. Drawing on utilitarian forms and deconstructed silhouettes as well as rave culture, Maze Dublin creates pieces that are both functional and unique.

The combination of fashion and music allows both aspects of the collective to come to life completely. Maze X events, for example, provide a perfect context for the clothing to be worn, while the garments themselves help improve the quality of experience for attendees. The interrelation between both art forms is particularly visible in hybrid shows hosted by the collective, in which fashion shows transition directly into club nights, closing the border between the runway and the dancefloor and demonstrating the garments as living and dynamic. Models become dancers and dancers become active participants in the performance, allowing the clothing to become completely animated and embodied, shared by all of the attendees.

Maze Dublin has also created a unique relationship with its community. The people wearing the clothes are often the same people attending Maze X events, playing in the line-up, or contributing elsewhere. This reinforces the relationship between attendees and hosts, as well as the connection between fashion and nightlife. This close relationship with guests is also aided by the importance of inclusivity as an intention for the collective, in the context of both fashion and music events. The brand works very hard to actively create safe spaces where people are free to express themselves without judgment. This inclusivity extends to diverse line-ups, support for emerging local talent, and an atmosphere that emphasises the need for respect and shared enjoyment over exclusivity. Maze X nights, understandably, attract a wide mix of dancers, creatives, and music fans, united by the desire to enjoy with an open mind.

Collaboration is a key part of Maze’s development. They work regularly with other collectives, artists and projects, strengthening the wider underground ecosystem in Dublin. These collaborations allow for visibility for emerging artists and create unique combinations of music, meaning every event is unique instead of formulaic or generic.

Looking forward, Maze X continues to build momentum with a growing calendar of events across Dublin. Future events promise deeper explorations of sound, ambitious venues, and further collaborations. For example, an upcoming event in February features only female artists, with the collective even creating a call-out on Instagram to encourage female DJs to sign up for the event. This demonstrates their intention towards representation and inclusivity, carving a unique space within the nightlife scene, instead of simply conforming to what has previously been done.

Alongside these events, Maze Dublin is also set to develop new collections and visual projects that further explore the relationship between clothing, movement, and nightlife, facilitating self-expression and enjoyment within the collaborative context.

The intention at Maze is to create culture, not just host events or design clothing. Maze actively builds environments and curates a culture in which people feel inspired, connected, and present. It prioritises authenticity and experimentation, not simply following trends or relying on hype. As a result, young creatives working with and for Maze are able to redefine nightlife as a cultural space and not simply an activity.
