PUBLIC WARNING - The Green Curtains Project
Public Warning formed at school for a Christmas show, kicking things off with Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade. Adam vividly remembers dropping and breaking his guitar in front of the entire school, and they’ve been smashing guitars on stage since day one.
The name Public Warning came after trawling through countless name generators. While it never quite clicked, the band never felt the need to change it.
Their sound is a lively blend of indie, pop, punk, and rock. Energetic, raw, and fun. “We’ve always opted for that over super pretty melodies or complex compositions,” Adam says. “Sometimes the simple stuff just works.”
Musically, their taste is mixed, but common ground has always existed. Back in the day, it was Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys that brought them together. These days it’s more Fontaines D.C., Wunderhorse, and Catfish and The Bottlemen.
They recently dropped a new EP titled Over/Under, a project born from bouncing ideas around in the room. “It’s always fun when someone brings in a finished song,” Adam explains, “but when something forms naturally while we’re all jamming. That’s usually our favourite stuff.”
In a saturated Irish music scene full of fresh talent, standing out remains a challenge. “We’ve played with so many amazing acts and want to see them all succeed, but being the hot act is tricky when that title seems to change every week.”
Their dream venue? Without hesitation: the Olympia. Having seen so many iconic shows there, it’s hard to imagine a better stage for Public Warning.
The band is excited to return to the studio this year with fresh material already in the works. They're also welcoming a new member, Laoise, who’ll be adding synth and vocals going forward. With eyes on playing festivals in the near future, Public Warning is charging ahead in the right direction.
