Vivienne Westwood X Nana
One of the biggest collaborations of the year is not only from the fashion scene but from manga and anime. This is the amazing and most deserved collaboration in Vivienne Westwood’s history.
The anime/manga scene has had an interesting relationship between the world of fashion. From the comic book stores selling printed Dragon Ball Z tees to the collaborations of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure with Gucci in 2013. It has been an interesting time for its development. However, many are now wondering about the biggest collaboration to date.
Vivienne Westwood is a household name for runway fashion and iconic pieces of jewellery. But many might not know what Nana is. The hit manga comes from Mangaka Ai Yazawa. Having a degree in fashion it has placed itself in the centre of her works. Nana is the story of two women named Nana on their journey through Tokyo in search of meaning and purpose. The series tackles a lot of serious themes of abuse and its effects on people. The manga has sadly been on hiatus for over a decade due to health complications with the Mangaka.
Why collaborate with Vivienne Westwood? Well it’s all to do with how Vivienne Westwood clothing and jewellery have been referenced and worn by one of the main characters within the manga. However, this collaboration also marks a huge anniversary for the 25th year since the manga first came to print. The collaboration is a huge and massive milestone for not only the manga but for the fans themselves.
Fans are going crazy for the chance to get amazing replicas of the many amazing outfits of the main characters of the manga. The mini kilts, the puppy corsets, mini sundress and most importantly, the reappearance of the orb lighter in Gold. All these designed for a specific and meticulous appreciation for the source material itself. With 28th items in the collection there is something for every type of fan which not only pays homage but also reflects a great respect for fashion itself.
