What you missed at Exhibit A

Art communities can often feel intimidating to step into. Walking into a room full of creatives who already know one another can be unnerving when you don’t know a single face. It’s easy to feel isolated, but Event Junction, founded by Alicia Kavanagh, is working to break down those barriers and make creative spaces more accessible to everyone.

Starfish Magazine was delighted to spend an afternoon at The Event Junction’s debut networking event, “Exhibit A”,earlier this spring, offering a glimpse into both the evolving landscape of Dublin’s art scene and the people helping to shape it.

Exhibit A blended exhibition, networking, and performance into one immersive experience. Artists from a wide range of disciplines showcased their work, spanning spoken-word poetry to sculpture.

We caught up with some of the artists behind Exhibit A to hear their stories.

1. Kaja Osowska (@kaja_osowska)
It’s hard to believe this is Osowska’s debut exhibition. Inspired by cave paintings from around the world, her work explores the idea that we are all connected across cultures and time. In the chaos of the modern world, it’s easy to forget the roots of humanity: how we once moved together and shared a sense of tenderness within community. While we may feel far removed from our primal ancestors, Osowska’s work gently reminds us that we still experience love just as they did.

2. Shona Beedall (@artbyshonaaa)
Beedall’s work is simply magical, like stepping into a fairytale. Her pieces are feminine, colourful, and deeply connected to nature, evoking a sense of utopia far removed from our own reality. Her practice often centres around the concept of “play,” and during her time with us, she expressed a desire to return to creating art purely for the joy of it after focusing on project-based work in university.

3. Godd’is (Ana Alvarez) @_peace2daearth_
Mexico’s Godd’is captivated the room with a beautiful spoken word performance. Beginning her poetry journey at open mic events, her early work explored themes of love. Now, she aims to capture not only her own emotions but those of the collective. Declaring, “I am you, but I’m not,” she reminds us that while we are individuals, we remain deeply connected. With a family background in music, her work blends soulful melodies with spoken word, creating a unique and memorable experience that can draw in even the most distant listener.

4. Kamille Catala (@catala.art)
Miami-based artist Kamille Catala’s work is utterly entrancing. From Wild West-inspired pieces incorporating 3D elements to dreamlike paintings that transform Dublin’s St. Anne’s Park into an ethereal landscape, her work feels both immersive and transportive.

5. Emily Rong (@emilyyrongart)
Rong’s work beautifully blends childhood innocence with surreal elements. It feels comforting, like a distant memory that is both familiar and slightly distorted. Spanning delicate ceramics to pastel portraits, her work carries a realistic yet stylised quality that resonates with anyone.

6. Tara Lillis (@tlilillispainting)
Lillis’s work often centres on the human figure. In one painting, multiple figures appear to merge into one; in another, a solitary figure sits on a bed, turned away from the viewer and facing a window. Her style is both peaceful and introspective, inviting quiet reflection.

About Event Junction and founder Alicia Kavanagh
You may recognise Alicia Kavanagh from your TikTok or Instagram feed, but her work extends far beyond content creation. Balancing a full-time career alongside philanthropic work, freelance marketing, and promotion, it’s remarkable how much she fits into a single day.

At the heart of it all is her passion for connection and community. Through The Event Junction, Kavanagh is creating the kind of close-knit creative events Dublin has been missing, where artists and musicians can come together, network, and find inspiration.

One thing is certain: she’s one to watch.
