Ais Ais Brady, the human experience in film

Film maker and designer Ais Ais Brady has done it all. From winning awards to making Eurovision music videos, Brady has cemented herself as a cultural icon in the independent film and graphic art world. Ais Ais Brady is an artist who loves to show her skill of design in all her projects, from Nike to her own short films. There is a love for the craft that cannot be ignored.

From originally working in an artist collective back in 2017, Brady later left to focus on bigger projects. She wanted to work on projects that would give her challenges and force her to work on pushing her abilities forward. This resulted in her working with all sorts of Irish voices.

The flair of working musicians is where we can really see the underlying rhythm of Brady’s work. From working with Pá Sheehy on his music video for his song Róisin, her talent is laid clearly. Brady’s beautiful visual storytelling mixes beautifully with Pá Sheehy’s voice, making anyone who listens feel the emotional impact to anyone who witnesses it. Brady loves to play on the heartstrings to anyone who watches her work. This can be seen especially with her collaboration on Jape’s Instrumental for the Lonely. The way she filmed the piece in black and white to portray emotions of grief, makes it feel nostalgic to anyone who watches it. The way Brady makes any scene feel so personal and relatable to people is one of her most powerful techniques. She makes her direction so powerful by staying on those long painful moments.

Ais Brady has also worked with the Irish Women in Harmony. The organisation was based around supporting women and children in crisis, as well as fellow Irish women in the music industry. Brady directed Irish Women in Harmony's Only a Woman in 2021. The piece received great praise in its directing. The video cutting between multiple perspectives of different women is an excellent job of capturing Irish Women In Harmony’s messaging. Brady is able to provide relatable and engaging ways of how a shared experience is shared with women. Each shot is able to show different women and their struggles in Ireland. It is relatable and understandable to all.

Yet age is also how Brady looks at us in relation to grief. In her critically acclaimed short film The Silence Between. The piece was the winner of 3 golden sharks in 2024 Kinsale Shark Awards, for best casting, best acting performance and best short film under 15 minutes. The near complete silent film follows the life of a man struggling with his day to day living in a decrepit old cottage, until finding the will to move on. The depressing nature in which grief places us in an unmovable state of pain. She makes sure that anyone watching is able to see what a deep depression can feel like. Brady’s work is something both, critically acclaimed and highly praised as setting the high standards for Irish filmmaking.

Ais Ais Brady’s work can be found on both her website Vimeo and in the case of The Silence Between on Mubi. Yet, the work of Ais Ais Brady is far from over. Now she is finishing her latest project Like Me. The voice of Ais Brady is flourishing into something so powerful and profound to its witnesses.
