Everyday Acts That Are Totally Rock n’ Roll
Rock and Roll, a music genre with heavy beat and simple melodies is often associated with leather jackets, guitars and eyeliner-smudged rebels in tour buses. However, if you would look closer, you might be able to notice that Rock n’ Roll could become more quiet and more alive in a subtle way. The true spirit of Rock n’ Roll isn’t just crowd-surfing, rebellion, and smashing guitars. It is about bold choice, refusal to play by unnecessary rules, and being unapologetically yourself! Here are just a few mundane things that (in our opinion) are absolutely Rock n’ Roll.
1. Saying No Without Explanation
We are quite used to feeling the need to overexplain ourselves, especially when the circumstances involve something negative. However, we would argue that there is something extremely powerful and liberating about simple “no”. Not “no because I am busy” or “no, sorry”. Just a simple: No.
It resists the urge of comfort and catering to everyone’s opinions or feelings, and constant justifying excuses, or simple apology for only existing. It is not rude. It is healthy! It creates space and sets the boundaries. The simple, yet assertive statement “no”, declares a form of self-trust that highlights the resistance. It is not rude, it’s Rock n’ Roll!
2.Carrying a Spare Pair of Underwear in Your Bag
Being too prepared is not being anxious or paranoid, it is smart. There is a sense of a quiet confidence that radiates from the knowledge that life is extremely unpredictable. Being ready for anything is assertive. You are prepared for whatever day might throw your way! Whether it is a last-minute sleepover, a spontaneous swimming session or a long night that stretches into the morning. The extra pair isn’t just practical, it is a small act of self-care, stating “I’ve got me”.
Arguably, a true Rock n’ Roll star, Pamella Anderson, too carries spare underwear in her purse everywhere she goes. In a 2023 Vogue interview, Pamella Anderson was sharing what’s in her bag, and she pulled out a pair of underwear stating “Don’t know why I have g-string in my purse, but don’t tell me that you don’t have a scrunchy”. After skillfully creating her iconic 90s updo, Pamella says that tussled up-do always had a pair of panties in it.
The rock stars live out in suitcases, but we live out of our tote. Always ready for the unexpected chaos of being human. Totally Rock n’ Roll!
3.Having a Bush
In the world, where natural body hair is considered unhygienic and the obsessions with waxing, shaving, plucking and laser treatments, choosing to embrace a bush is quite a revolutionary act. No better way of showing a middle finger to the beauty standards being shoved into our faces since puberty. The pure rock energy comes from the statements of “my body, my terms”.
Over recent years, the classing “80s bush” has become a hot topic over social media, showing the younger audience that it is completely okay and Rock n’ Roll to choose the way we would like to groom ourselves. It teaches us not to pay attention to beauty standards, or what men would enjoy to feel or look at. Having a bush isn’t about the statement for anyone else, but yourself. It is about comfort, authenticity, and maybe just the simple reason of being too damn busy to care.
For those who prefer experimenting with different grooming practices, we would love to give a shout-out to FFS Beauty for getting it. They’re not here to push the standard. They are here for us to support our choice. Created in Ireland, FFS isn’t just about great products, it’s about a community that uplifts and empowers women. Whether you’re going full bush, bare or somewhere in between, their eco-friendly and 100% cruelty free tools are created to respect your routine, not define it. Now that’s Rock n’ Roll!
Rock n’ Roll is not just about how loud you can be. Sometimes a whisper and a different path or a simple refusal is enough. It is present within the acts of everyday rebellion such as being unapologetically yourself and declaring: “I know who I am”.
