Terno Rei is back in Europe for ‘Nenhuma Estrela’

Terno Rei announces a European tour for February and March, covering six countries: Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, England, and Ireland.

The São Paulo-based quartet will showcase songs from their new album, Nenhuma Estrela, released this year via Balaclava Records. The band is currently touring Brazil, having already performed in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis, Curitiba, Londrina, and Vila Velha. The domestic leg continues through Guarulhos (Sesc Guarulhos), Fortaleza (Eu Quero é Rock), Teresina, a return to the capital (Áudio), and concludes the year in Belém (Psica). [The Brazilian tour is over now, and they are preparing for the Euro tour.]

"We are very excited to return to Europe for the fourth time, visiting some countries we’ve never played before. Each time it gets cooler and more comfortable for us, so this has everything to be the best one yet," adds Ale Sater, songwriter, lead vocalist, and bassist.

Terno Rei has established itself as one of the leading names in contemporary Brazilian alternative music over the last decade. With confessional lyrics that resonate across generations, paired with a unique sound transitioning through dream pop, post-punk, and alternative rock, they have become a benchmark for captivating sensitivity and melancholy. Formed in São Paulo in 2010, the group consists of Ale Sater (vocals and bass), Bruno Paschoal (guitar, vocals, and synths), Greg Maya (guitar and synths), and Luis Cardoso (drums and vocals).

Nenhuma Estrela displays a mature synthesis of the influences and sounds that have marked the band's trajectory over the last ten years, while simultaneously proposing innovations that reflect the group's evolution.

The tracks are melancholic and introspective, accompanied by an 80s and 90s aesthetic characterised by guitar riffs and synth arrangements that create a distinct sonic landscape. The debut singles "Nada Igual" and "Nenhuma Estrela," along with tracks like "Pega," "Casa Vazia," and "Acordo," capture this atmosphere while revealing a band more in tune with its essence.

There is also room for surprises, such as "Tempo." In a rare move for the quartet, the track is "made for the dancefloor" with a groovier rhythm reminiscent of New Order and Depeche Mode, featuring vocals by Clara Borgers from the young Minas Gerais band Paira.

In the single "Próxima Parada," the band pays homage to 90s alternative music with nods to trip-hop. The acoustic ballad "32" brings a confessional tone, evoking the album's central lyrical theme: reflections on maturity.

Meanwhile, "Peito" and "Viver de Amor" are affectionate soft-pop tracks with nocturnal tones, influenced by 80s groups like The Blue Nile and Prefab Sprout.

The album features a very special guest appearance by Lô Borges on "Relógio," which the band describes as "the most elegant track on the album." This is due to the unprecedented collaboration and its refined vocal melody, intertwined with slightly lysergic guitar arrangements that evoke the universe created by the legendary composer in his classic Clube da Esquina.

In Nenhuma Estrela, Terno Rei presents itself at its most mature phase, both aesthetically and in songwriting, offering an album that is simultaneously introspective and expansive.
